Sailing in St Thomas

This is my first video. I am finally satisfied enough with the quality to post it on my blog. (depending on your connection speed, you may have to pause it until enough data has pre-loaded) Since I came back from our cruise in December, I’d been busy with real estate shoots during the day and would spend whatever time I could grab in the evening and on the weeks to study video capture, editing and production. As a photographer, I am very critical of image quality such as sharpness, dynamic range, noise, contrast, & color accuracy. Video has been frustrating and I have had to take a step back and realize that video will never produce the same quality as a still a image. But there is still a lot one can do, especially when capturing the footage, to ensure the best picture quality.

This video was shot with the Nikon d90 using the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 and 10.5 fisheye lens’s. It was edited and produced in Adobe Premiere CS4. The d90 is an amazing camera but not without some significant limitations on the video side. However, it’s understanding those limitations and being able to find solutions that can really help one learn and master a new trade. I am very optimistic  about someday introducing video as a supplement to my photography.
